Frequently asked questions

What is a virtual candle?

It is a candle you light from your phone or computer with your name and your petition. It stays lit on Velario for everyone to see, like a votive stand in a church.

Is it free?

Yes. Lighting a candle is free and you don’t need to sign up. If you want it never to go out, you can make it eternal with a donation that helps us keep Velario going.

How long does it stay lit?

A free candle burns for 5 days, and you can renew it with «Keep it lit». An eternal candle never goes out.

Can I dedicate it to a saint or to the Virgin?

Yes. When you light it you can choose who to dedicate it to —Jesus Christ, a title of the Virgin Mary, an apostle or a saint— or light it for any other reason, without a dedication.

How do I share it?

From your candle’s window you can send it by WhatsApp or email to anyone you like.

What does each colour mean?

Each colour has its own meaning: white for peace, red for love, green for hope… We explain it in detail on our blog.
